Ardyaloon came alive with the remote community’s Blue Water Youth Sports Carnival this week, bringing about 200 community members and local kids together for two days of active fun and community celebration.

The event began on July 14 with the first rounds of the football and basketball tournaments and concluded on July 15 with tournament grand finals and a community disco celebration that evening.

The carnival was made possible through close collaboration and generous donations from Kimberley organisations and businesses.

Garnduwa provided support staff and daily breakfast and barbecues, while Dunnings donated a box full of footballs for the carnival.

High Wycombe Junior Football Club donated football jumpers, which Bruce Avery Transport transported to the remote community.

Cyrenian House in Broome ran a stall with staff also rolling up their sleeves to assist with food preparation while the Tackling Indigenous Smoking team provided interactive stalls and support staff.

Additionally, Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Service supplied fresh fruit for participants throughout the carnival and ran an interactive stall to engage youth and discuss health and wellbeing programs.

Ardyaloon chief executive John Reudavey said the carnival had been “fantastic”.

“This carnival is one of the most highly anticipated events on the Dampier Peninsula calendar,” he said.

“It plays a vital role in bringing together youth and families from across our remote communities to participate in healthy competition, build positive relationships, and stay safely engaged in sports during the holiday period.

“It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces, hear the kids laughing, and listen to families cheering everyone on,” he said.

“A massive thankyou to everyone who worked so hard behind the scenes to get this carnival off the ground.”
