A major step forward for health care in Broome was celebrated over the weekend as Broome’s DNTL Code officially marked the opening of its new state-of-the-art clinic on July 13.

While the clinic first opened its doors to patients five weeks ago in June, the weekend’s celebration offered a chance to thank the community and toast a significant upgrade in local health infrastructure.

Located along Frederick Street, the new clinical space is one of the first pieces of the newly built Broome Medical and Wellness Centre.

The $6.1 million precinct is slated to become a comprehensive health hub, eventually encompassing a GP clinic, pharmacy, beauty clinic, cafe, psychologist, physiotherapist and two medical imaging tenancies.

For DNTL Code, the move represents a massive upgrade from their former Barker Street location, expanding clinical space by about 40 per cent.

DNTL Code dentist and managing director Dr Steph Mulcahy said the new footprint scaled up their operations significantly to meet future demand.

“At our previous facility, we had four dental chairs and three dermal, and in this clinic, we have six dental, four dermal, and then we also have the addition of two orthodontic chairs for our orthodontist,” she said.

“There’s population growth projected for Broome, and this wellbeing hub with the services that are to come going forward will be beneficial for everyone. It’s building capacity for the future as well.”

Dr Mulcahy designed the new clinic with a deliberate focus on patient comfort, creating private, calm, and relaxing lounge areas and said seeing her vision come to life has been incredibly rewarding.

“Everyone feels so calm and relaxed walking in and that was the goal,” she said.

“To have that displayed, and to see people feel the way that I’d hoped for them to feel without me having to explain it, is really special to see.”

Beyond general dentistry for all age groups, the clinic introduces advanced capabilities previously unavailable locally, such as a specialised treatment room built to host IV sedation.

This allows the clinic to bring anaesthetists up to Broome for complex surgeries and implants, saving patients from flying to Perth or Darwin.

The facility also houses the largest cone beam CT scanner north of Geraldton, an advanced imaging tool that has already led to life-saving incidental discoveries, including the detection of brain aneurysms during routine implant planning.

DNTL Code also stands out by fully integrating dental and dermal treatments under a single business entity, allowing the team to treat complex issues like bruxism (teeth clenching) from both a structural and cosmetic perspective.

Following a demanding lead-up to launch, the opening event allowed the team to celebrate alongside patients with exclusive prizes, including Louis Vuitton bags.

“It’s been a long-time coming, and it’s been a tough few months in particular, so it’ll be nice to celebrate with our patients, and say thank you,” Dr Mulcahy said.
