Lynne for the win!
Armed with her book of post it notes, Lynne McGranger has taken to the stage for her Gold Logie acceptance speech.
She’s thrilled the auto cue is back up and running!
“33 years, I’ve done this amazing show. And I am thrilled and honoured. Before I forget, this is going to be pride of place next to my 1974 Wagga Wagga Drama Festival Best Actress. And it’s true, it’s absolutely true. That’s when I went, “This acting thing is kind of good!” maybe I will be better at it than I am at teaching.

“I want to acknowledge all the other nominees, all the beautiful, fierce women of all ages. And I am the eldest! If you live as long as I do, it’s fantastic. And of course, lovely Hamish. You are a brave man, darl, thank you.
“I don’t know if any of you have caught my press lately - there hasn’t been much. But I did promise that if I won the Gold Logie that I would carry it around in my handbag for a year. Which is better than burying my white arse on morning television, Larry! So I will do that. And I may regret it.”
Gold Logie winner announced
A Gold logie winner and last year’s Hall of Famer Rebeca Gibney announced Lynne McGranger as taking home the top gong.
Return To Paradise wins Best Drama in shock upset
Gosh, this was a tight category - we did NOT see this coming.
Neither did the cast, it seems.
“Oh my goodness, this is such a cliche to say I wasn’t expecting this,” says Anna Samson.
She’s reading off cue cards - old school!
“To the audiences who took our gentle show into their heart. It’s a show about kindness and belonging and frighteningly frequent murder, so a huge thank you,” she said.

Lynne McGranger wins Best Actress

Unbelievably, this is Lynne’s first win.
She has played her character Irene since 1991, making her the longest-serving Female Actor in an Australian drama in history.
“I am incredibly honoured to be amongst such unbelievable company,” she said.
Lynne is emotional - and rightly so!
She is thanking her “marvellous” writers, and producers.
“They have given me a life to live through Irene, and have written the most remarkable exit story about a woman living with Alzheimers, which is something we are all aware of in this day and age,” she said.
“I am so grateful I am trusted.”
Lynne gives her husband a shout-out - apparently he would rather swallow a hammer than attend the Logies!
Big Dad energy, right there!
