Super Netball 2025: West Coast Fever star Shanice Beckford on adapting to Australian competition for finals

West Coast Fever goal attack Shanice Beckford says she’s better adapted to the fast-pace and heavy travel schedule of Super Netball as she prepares for her second finals campaign in the green dress. Beckford is part of a powerhouse Fever outfit firing towards a second flag, having already claimed the minor premiership and earning the rights to host the major semifinal next weekend on the back of a league record 11 consecutive victories. They will head into their final clash of the home-and-away season against the Melbourne Vixens at RAC Arena on Sunday, certain of their immediate future, but eyeing a fourth grand final appearance in the coming weeks. The Jamaican attacker has built strongly into her second season in the Australian league and is finding her best form as Fever reach the business end of the season. Beckford conceded it was a tough introduction to Super Netball last year as she had to get used to the tight schedule as well as the travel as part of a Western Australian-based side. “I feel as if I’m more adaptable to the league now and my body is not as achy as when I first started,” she told The West Australian. “It’s about understanding my role in Super Netball and just interjecting myself in. I find it awesome this time around compared to my first season. “I wasn’t used to all the travelling and playing week in, week out. So my first season allowed me to adapt, so my second season has been more of a smooth transition into the league. “I knew it was always going to be hard work but coming in and to experience the entirety of Super Netball was a little bit different from what I am used to back in Jamaica but I’ve loved it and it’s shaped me to be the player I am today and it’s part of my journey.” Beckford is coming off arguably the best of her 29 games at Fever after scoring three goals and 11 score assists in the 17-goal win over a strong Giants outfit. The 30-year-old said she wouldn’t change anything for finals as she looked to be part of a historic side. “There’s always room for improvement but for me it’s about staying laser focused,” Beckford said. “I’m not looking to change anything, just continue to play and interject myself in well for the team. “It’s just being more laser-focused and having my eyes on the prize.”
