Broome police chase, captured on drone camera, leads to multiple arrests

Footage of a man racing through the streets of Broome with police in pursuit, captured by a police drone, has led to multiple arrests and a string of serious charges.
The dramatic scenes unfolded after Broome Police allegedly attempted to stop a man riding an unregistered electric motorcycle on Manado Court in Cable Beach about 12.40pm on Tuesday, June 17.
But the rider allegedly failed to stop, sparking a manhunt that ended the following afternoon when police, with the help of drone operators from Kimberley Traffic, zeroed in on the suspect’s location.
It’s alleged the man was spotted on drone cameras recklessly weaving through suburban streets with a passenger on the back, neither of them wearing helmets, before leading officers to a home on Forrest Street.
There, police arrested an 18-year-old man and seized the motorcycle. Inside the property, officers allegedly discovered prohibited drugs, cash and drug paraphernalia, leading to the arrests of several others at the scene.
The man — identified in court as Zeus McKenzie Jnr — was charged with a raft of serious offences, including reckless driving to escape pursuit, failing to stop for police, driving while suspended, and multiple helmet offences.
McKenzie fronted Broome Magistrates Court on July 7 and is due to reappear on August 4.
The crackdown didn’t stop there. A 58-year-old woman was also charged after police allegedly found drugs and smoking implements at the property. A 23-year-old man, along with two other women aged 39 and 59, were each charged with drug possession.
All are expected to appear before Broome Magistrates Court in August.
