They’re two of the AFL’s brightest young guns and ahead of the game that stops the state, Harley Reid and Hayden Young put rivalry aside for an exclusive shoot with The West Australian.
Fremantle and West Coast will clash for the 61st time at Optus Stadium on Saturday in what is expected to be more than 50,000 fans, with millions more watching at home live on Channel 7.
And a lot of the attention will be on stars Reid and Young who are set to light up the clash between the two state rivals.
Reid, 20, will turn out for his fourth derby appearance, having made a splash in his first when he kicked three goals from 19 disposals to cement himself as a superstar of the future in an upset win for the Eagles.
“This will be my fourth RAC Derby and I love how the whole state really gets up and about for them,” Reid told The West Australian.
“The rivalry and excitement amongst the fans adds an extra element to the build up and gameday.
“Derby week always hits different. Proud to pull on the jumper for the game that means so much to the club and state.”
Young, 24, has played in seven derbies previously and won six of them as part of a strong era for the Dockers.
“It’s going to be a big crowd and we love the occasion of the RAC Derby, being in a two-team town,” he said. “We’re certainly expecting and preparing for their best.”
