Running repairs

Some concerns over the state of the bowling crease have led to a short delay in play as the grounds staff enter the ground to do some quick repairs.

The leader of England’s aggressive style Zak Crawley has started in decidedly un-Bazball-like fashion, managing just one from his first 18 deliveries.

Pope living dangerously

Ollie Pope has already edged the ball a few times in his brief stay at the crease, including one from a Cummins delivery which just evaded Josh Inglis at third slip and went to the boundary.

England need their No.3 to settle.

We’re back

The second session is now under way, with Mitchell Starc showing the pitch may be playing some tricks in a short first delivery which reared up to sail over Alex Carey’s head for four byes.

England’s No.3 Ollie Pope is under all sorts of pressure and looks skittish early, as he has done for much of the series.

That’s lunch

England were not able to get through the two overs they were required to face before lunch without losing a wicket, with Ben Duckett already departing.

Some shenanigans from Zak Crawley ensured the clock had ticked past 12.30pm local time by the time Pat Cummins sent down the final ball of his over.

Cummins responded by sizzling an outswinger past the outside edge and sent some words in Crawley’s direction with a broad smile on his face.

We’ll be back in around 40 minutes for the second session.

Perfect start for the Aussies!

The perfect start for Australia!

After Zak Crawley faced out a maiden from Mitchell Starc, Ben Duckett clipped the first ball he faced from Pat Cummins to the boundary to get England’s chase away.

But he could not help but nibble outside the off stump from the next ball he faced, presenting a catching chance Marnus Labuschagne was all too happy to accept at second slip.

Here we go

Mitchell Starc has taken the new ball and was on the money immediately in his first over.

He has found good pace straight away, with his first ball sizzling through at 146.6 km/h.

Australia’s innings wrapped up!

Jofra Archer has ended Australia’s innings, with Scott Boland popping a bouncer up in the air to be dismissed caught and bowled.

The hosts will be looking for the first of the 10 wickets they will need to win the Ashes in the approximately 10 minutes which will be played before lunch, while England are staring down a record-breaking chase of 434.

Scotty survives

Scott Boland survived the hat-trick ball, leaving a wide Brydon Carse delivery well outside off stump alone.

Mitchell Starc then drove the England seamer down the ground for four, encapsulating a series where he has captured some wickets but been very expensive.

And Lyon follows!

Brydon Carse is on a hat-trick after knocking over Nathan Lyon lbw!

The Australian spinner did review the decision as his side had enough left to do so but walked off the ground and was shown to be trapped dead in front.

Cummins out!

England are at least doing what they can to wrap up Australia’s tail quickly.

Pat Cummins has thrown his hands at a wide Brydon Carse ball, only edging through to Harry Brook at slip.
