VideoThe moment Southside Flyers kept the WNBL grand final series alive.

The grand final series is still alive but there is no doubt this moment will be living in the minds of Perth Lynx right up until the final buzzer on Sunday.

After dominating away the Lynx had the chance to claim their first title since 1992 on their home court but the Flyers were not going to roll over despite a poor first game showing.

The game was going down to the wire but Lynx captain Anneli Maley got on a fast break with an open basket waiting only for her lay-up to rim out.

With 14 seconds left the Flyers scrambled down the other end and with the Mercedes Russell hitting a fade-away jumper to keep the grand final series alive.

It was ecstasy for the Flyers but heartbreak for the Lynx whose wait for another title will be extended by at least a few days.

The Game AFL 2024

Maley was understandably crestfallen after the buzzer by coach Ryan Petrik was determined that this set back would not break her or the Lynx apart.

“She’ll be fine. We’ll get around her and look after her,” he said.

“The one real positive with our team is it is such a tight knit group. It won’t fracture. It won’t stray The culture is really, really strong. She’ll be fine.

“If we go to Melbourne with our tail between our legs, it’ll be bad. If we go to Melbourne free and loose hopefully we’ll give a display like we did in the last game.”

The deciding game three will get underway 10:30am Sunday.
