DONE DEAL: SPARGO JOINS ROOS
Charlie Spargo has at last landed at the Kangaroos as an unrestricted free agent.
Melbourne are set to get a draft pick at the end of round two as as compensation - that currently sits at Pick 41.
Spargo played 108 games across eight seasons at the Dees, including booting a first-term goal in their 2021 flag triumph.

List bosses wrap
After every club’s list boss or footy manager chatted this morning upon arrival at Marvel Stadium, here are some of the nuggets to emerge:
- Gold Coast have reiterated they won’t be trading Bailey Humphrey under any circumstances, despite interest from Melbourne among others
- Geelong’s list manager Andrew Mackie admits it’ll be “hard work” landing both Charlie Curnow and Rowan Marshall but the Cats are keen to “get busy”
- St Kilda’s head of talent Graeme ‘Gubby’ Allan gave some great lines that included saying signing up Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera “gave us the opportunity to go fishing” as they look to be among the more active clubs across the next 9 days
No sweet sixteen for Lions in Starcevich deal
Here’s the full wrap on West Coast’s Matt Clarke saying Pick 16 won’t be used in any deal to get the Brandon Starcevich deal done, despite Brisbane’s interest.
Eagles update
West Coast list boss Matt Clarke has given an update on a range of Eagles issues.
- The club has started dialogue with Brisbane on Brandon Starcevich - they “ideally” won’t give up Pick 16 in a trade for him. “He plays with an unbelievable hardness, he’s got great experience, he’s a really good culture guy.”
- Liam Ryan - “We’re happy to keep Liam. He’s not disgruntled with the club at all, and we’re not disgruntled the other way, either. We think he can really add to us. He’s contracted next year, so it will be up to St Kilda to come to us with something that’s sufficient.”
- Any indication on Oscar Allen compensation? “Nothing as yet... that’s up to Brisbane and when they lodge and what the offer is.”
- Tylar Young - both Eagles and Richmond not far apart on a deal. He’s a potential starting 23 player to give West Coast key-position defensive depth. “We’re really excited to have a guy of his size and stature play those roles and help our guys down back”.
- Campbell Chesser - Eagles and Carlton “a little bit apart” on a prospective deal.
DONE DEAL: WEHR JOINS POWER
Jacob Wehr’s paperwork has been lodged - and he’s now officially a Port Adelaide player after joining as an unrestricted free agent.
There’s no compensation for GWS. Wehr, 27, played 39 games for the Giants across four seasons, including a career-best 14 appearances this year.

Demons update
Melbourne list manager Tim Lamb has spoken on a range of issues for the club that’s going to be one of the most active this trade period.
On Clayton Oliver and the feelers being out from both GWS and Collingwood: “We’ve seen a bit of interest in Clayton from rival clubs, so we’ll see how that plays out.”
Christian Petracca’s potential shift to Gold Coast: “That’s sort of up to Christian and the Suns. If there’s a deal that we think is in the best interests of the club, that’s something we’ll look at... it’s up to a club to turn our heads.”
Confirms the Dees have had a “long-term interest” in Bailey Humphrey ... “I’m not going to deny we’ve spoken to him, everyone’s seen the photo.”
Says the club is in “preliminary” talks with Freo on Judd McVee. “We’re disappointed with that one... we’ve been trying to recontract Judd since the middle of last year.”
Freo latest
Freo list boss David Walls says the club has “started chats” with Melbourne on Judd McVee.
“We know he can defend, we know he can play deep lock-down. But we also think he’s got a lot of run and creativity to his game as well. We’d like to see him up the ground a little bit further. We think he can really help and complement our ball movement out of the back half.”
Walls said Freo would look to move some picks around to find a compromise for where both Freo and Melbourne are happy.
He was clear when asked if Sean Darcy would be on the trade table in any way: “Absolutely not.”
Brisbane playing hard ball with Eagles?
Brisbane list manager Dom Ambrogio has spoken about the deals tied in with West Coast, and says the Oscar Allen move still has some things to be hashed out.
“We’re not sure when that’ll be lodged - we’ve got a bit to work through with the West Coast Eagles in regard to how the other trade will work, with Brandon (Starcevich) involved.”
When it was put to him that the Lions were reportedly targeting pick 16 for Starcevich, he said: “We haven’t completely firmed up exactly what we’re looking for, but we’re looking for the best deal we can get.”
When asked what Starcevich was worth in a trade, Ambrogio replied: “A lot.”
Bombers bullish
Essendon list manager (and one-time Eagles grand final player) Matt Rosa has spoken at Marvel, and says the club’s stance on Zach Merrett remains firm: The Bombers are bullish that they won’t be trading him.
“We’ve been really clear that we won’t entertain moving Zach... he’s a required player and champion of our football club,” Rosa said.
Confirms the club has some interest in Jack Steele, who last week stepped down from the captaincy at St Kilda.

First interviews
Collingwood list manager Justin Leppitsch is among the first club representatives to speak at Marvel Stadium.
On the agenda for the ageing Pies:
- The Magpies will do their ‘due diligence’ on Clayton Oliver - they haven’t yet spoken to him but ‘it’s a position of need for us’.
- Collingwood have ruled out a play for Steven May
- It’s a ‘wait and see’ for Mason Cox on a new deal
