A former Sydney councillor who reinvented himself as a MAGA-aligned influencer in the United States has been tapped by President Donald Trump as his pick for ambassador to Malaysia.

Nick Adams first rose to prominence as a young deputy mayor on Ashfield Council in Sydney, where he grabbed attention with a controversial pitch to eliminate local pigeons in a bid to curb the spread of bird flu.

His political career in Australia ended on a sour note after a 2009 incident in which he was caught on camera swearing at a Channel Ten journalist who was reporting on his repeated no-shows at council meetings.

The Liberal Party moved to suspend him, though Mr Adams later claimed he resigned before any disciplinary action was finalised.

Now aged 40 and an American citizen, Mr Adams has built a media profile as a staunch pro-Trump commentator.

He describes himself as a “cultural thought leader” and proudly promotes his image as a Hooters-loving “alpha male.”

“Mr President, I pledge to you that I will never falter in representing the interest in representing the United States both at home and abroad,” Adams said in a video shared on his X account.

In a post on Substack after his nomination, he wrote:

“Much of my adult life has been a story of giving back to the United States, the country I loved, the country that welcomed me first as a visitor, then as an entrepreneur, then as a citizen, and today, as an ambassador.

“Throughout my adult life, I have written books detailing my unending love affair with the United States, her Constitution, flag, people, and history.

“Now, the greatest president of all time, Donald J Trump, has bestowed upon me the honour of a lifetime.”

Posting to Truth Social shortly after the announcement, Mr Trump described Adams as an “incredible patriot and very successful entrepreneur, whose love of, and devotion to, our Great Country is an inspiration.”

Mr Trump added that Adams is a “bestselling author, speaker, and commentator...graduated from the University of Sydney and, since then, has made it his life’s mission to extol the Virtues of American Greatness.”

In a series of posts on X in 2023, Adams listed his passions as Hooters, rare steaks, “extremely” heavy weights and the Bible. He also described himself as “pursued by copious amounts of women,” “wildly successful,” and “extremely charismatic.”

The former Ashfield councillor rose to prominence in the US after Mr Trump endorsed his book, Green Card Warrior: My Quest for Legal Immigration in an Illegals’ System, calling it a “must read” in a tweet.

Since then, Adams has authored several other titles, including Retaking America: Crushing Political Correctness, Class Dismissed: Why College Isn’t the Answer, and The Most Dangerous President in History.

Adams became a US citizen in 2021.
