Childcare tragedy, Lancashire: Two-year-old boy dies after choking accident at nursery
A two-year-old boy has tragically died after being rushed to the hospital following an incident at a childcare.
Paramedics were called to a nursery in Lancashire on Friday after a boy became unresponsive.
Despite medical efforts, the child died just hours later.
Lancashire Police said there were no suspicious circumstances and that a file would be passed to the local coroner.
The nursery, praised by Ofsted inspectors for providing a “nurturing, home-from-home environment,” caters to children aged between one and five. It is privately run but located within the academy near Wigan.
Police confirmed the child had “become unresponsive,” while locals said the boy collapsed after a choking incident.
A police statement said: “We were called to Lancaster Lane, Parbold, at 2.43pm on September 19 following reports a child had become unresponsive at school.
“The child was taken to hospital where despite the best efforts of medical personnel, he tragically died.
“Our thoughts are with the boy’s loved ones at this extremely distressing time.
“His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be passed onto HM Coroner in due course.
“The child’s family have asked for their privacy to be respected.”
The nursery said in a statement: “It is with a heavy heart that we share that a tragic incident occurred at Parbold Douglas Nursery on Friday 19th September.”
“We are distraught to share that a special, much-loved two-year-old child has died.
“We as a nursery and a wider-school family are devastated.
“Our main thoughts and prayers are with the child’s family and all those impacted by this extremely distressing loss.”
It comes nearly a month after a 12-year-old boy died in a tragic fall from playground equipment at a park near his home.
Logan Carter was fatally injured at Wharton Recreation Ground in Winsford, Cheshire, England, on Friday, August 29
The BBC reported Logan was hurt after falling from park apparatus. Paramedics attempted to treat him but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Logan’s family described him as a “much-loved son, brother, grandson, great-grandson, cousin and friend to many” in a message published in the Constabulary release.
“He had an infectious personality and a beautiful smile,” the statement said.
“Everyone wanted to be near Logan. He was full of life and loved bringing laughter. He made every day feel brighter.”
The family added, “Logan was everyone’s therapy person, their calm, and he will be missed more than words can ever express. We are leaning on all the support shown to us as we try to come to terms with the devastating loss of our blue-eyed boy.”
Logan’s grieving father, Rob Carter, also wrote a heartbreaking tribute on Facebook.
“When I (woke) up on Friday my little mate I didn’t think that would be the last time I get to see you,” he wrote, adding, “My heart has been ripped in two.”
