Brazil: Father, daughter stung to death by bees after her truck overturned on hive during crash

A father has paid the ultimate price trying to rescue his daughter after her truck overturned on a beehive, with both tragically stung to death.
The horror scenario played out after the woman lost control of her vehicle on a dirt road in Brazil and it landed on top of the hive, leading to a swarm of bees engulfing the cabin.
Silvana da Fátima Braganca da Luz was driving in Vacaria in Rio Grande do Sul when the terrifying incident unfolded on October 22, the Civil Police and fire department told local media outlet Jornal Semanário.
A local resident who was first on the scene identified the truck and alerted emergency services before reportedly informing the 54-year-old woman’s parents, who lived on a nearby property.
With the closest rescue service about 60kms away, Silvana’s father Raul Portela da Luz, 79, and her mother, 72, rushed to the scene to try and help their daughter.
They were immediately attacked by the bees and suffered stings while they tried in vain to rescue Silvana, who who was still alive, despite suffering injuries in the initial crash.
“There were hundreds of stings,” the fire department said.
“When the team arrived at the scene, she was still alive, so the death did not occur at the time of the rollover.”
Raul was taken to the Nossa Senhora da Oliveira Hospital in critical condition, but succumbed to the trauma of the bee stings and died the following day, while Silvana’s mother survived after receiving treatment.
Silvana and Raul were buried on Octobeer 24 in the Serra do Rio Grande do Sul. The Brazilian Civil Police are yet to confirm the cause of the crash.
The incident occurred on the same day a group of road construction workers were attacked by a swarm of bees in Guyana, which neighbours Brazil, leaving one man dead and another in critical condition.
According to reports in the Guyanan Times, a road work crew at Surat Drive, Triumph, East Coast Demerara, had to flee after a swarm of bees launched a random attack.
Contractors Winston Semple and Glendon Simpson sustained multiple stings before being rushed to the Enmore Regional Hospital, according to the Guyana Police Force.
Semple, 29, was pronounced dead upon arrival, while Simpson, 40, remains in hospital in critical condition.
