Meghan Markle takes to social media after Prince Harry’s pointed swipe at King Charles in explosive interview
With royal relations at an all time low after Prince Harry’s jaw-dropping claims he was the victim of a ‘stitch up” and that the King refused to speak to him, Meghan Markle has offered a show of support.
The Duchess of Sussex has taken to Instagram, posting a black and white photo of Harry with their children Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 3.
Lilibet can be seen sitting on the Prince’s shoulders while Archie, dressed in shorts and a t-shirt, holds his left hand. The trio appear to be walking away from the camera in a lush garden.
The picture was uploaded without a caption and comments have been turned off, leaving royal watchers to draw their own conclusions about its meaning — and the timing.
Meghan’s post is her first foray into the public conversation since, Harry’s remarkable comments.
Prince Harry shocked the world with a rare, emotion-charged interview with the BBC early Saturday — fresh off his spectacular loss in the High Court where he failed in a bid to have security reinstated for his family when they are in the UK.
“Gutted” by the verdict, Prince Harry said before admitting his father, who is receiving treatment for cancer, was no longer speaking to him and that he would unlikely visit the UK with his young family again due to the security concerns.
He also claimed the royal household had “stitched him up”, sacrificing him to protect other senior members, and blamed his father for not doing more to intervene in the security stoush and the subsequent court case.
While he offered an olive branch by saying he doesn’t know how much longer his father has to live and that he would love to be reconciled, his outburst been met with widespread condemnation.
“Of course some members my family will never forgive me for writing a book. Of course they will never forgive me for lots of things. But you know, there is, I would love ... reconciliation with my family ... there’s no point in continuing to fight anymore,” he added.
“It would be nice to have that reconciliation part. Now, if they don’t want that, that’s entirely up to them.”
A close friend of King Charles is referencing Prince Harry’s continued attacks on the royals and the fact it is making it impossible for a reconciliation.
“It’s not that the King won’t speak to him — it’s that he can’t,” the insider told the Daily Mail.
“How can you have a private and delicate conversation when you know it is going to end up on a news special within hours?”
Prince Harry and Meghan stepped down from royal duties in 2020 and moved to California with their two children, under what became known as “Megxit”.
Since leaving, both he and Meghan have been highly critical of the royals in TV documentaries, an explosive interview with US chat show host Oprah Winfrey and most notably in Harry’s best-selling biography Spare.
