A mental health provider is bringing its eight-week training course to Kalgoorlie-Boulder and Esperance, offering locals the chance to train as teachers to help address mental health issues in the community.

WA Recovery College, delivered by Helping Minds, offers free mental health, wellbeing and personal recovery courses across WA through prisons, hospitals, community hubs and mental health organisations.

The upcoming eight-week teacher training courses in Kalgoorlie-Boulder and Esperance will start next month.

WA Recovery College operations lead Hillary Lee said education was one of the most powerful tools for personal transformation.

“Mental health has never been more important, with the rising cost of living putting added pressure on communities around WA,” she said.

“One of the tools we have to help improve mental health is education, it has the ability to help rebuild lives, while fostering belonging. It has the power to change lives.”

Courses are free and open to anyone aged 18 and over.
