Guests have a ball at the second exclusive Kalgoorlie-Boulder formal event for people with disabilities

The possibility of annually hosting the Uniquely You Ball, an event for people with disabilities, is high thanks to another successful year. After hitting it off in its debut last year, event organisers worked to bring back the ball even bigger for the October 25 celebration, catering for 50 more guests for 200 in total and expanding the dance floor. “The main attraction was definitely the dance floor, and our feedback was that it was too small,” co-organiser Sarsha Lander told the Kalgoorlie Miner before last Saturday’s event. This year’s hit, according to Ms Lander, was the Fashions on the Field event. “They got to strut their stuff across the stage, and we had some judges who picked the best dressed and it was just great,” she said. “Everyone was having a little spin and showing off, it was really nice.” Runway winners were awarded prizes including vouchers and trophies donated by Pitched Silent Disco. Ms Lander said it looked promising for the event to continue annually, with sponsor representatives attending the night and witnessing the joy it brought to people with disabilities. “We had a number of sponsor representatives come and they were really blown away by the evening,” she said. “It was really great for them to see what their financial contribution actually pays for. “Seeing that direct positive impact will help them, you know, want to be invested in the community and getting this event out each year.” The event took place at Kalgoorlie-Boulder Racing Club and was organised by EPIC’s Ms Lander, Integrity Lifestyle Solutions’ Gina Price and disability advocate Jo Russell.
