Narrogin Jetsprint Club opening meet of 2025 season with debut racers, junior sprints and fast-paced wins

A new speedboating pair debuted for their first ever sprint race at the Narrogin Jetsprint Club’s opening meet of the 2025 season at the upgraded Archibald Park track last month. The club’s first weekend race involved seven entries from around the Great Southern, Wheatbelt and Perth, including new driver Joel Meyer and navigator Maddison Bain in Hey Presto to compete in the LS and superboat divisions on September 20-21. NJC president Simon Cain said it was great welcoming new racers and would love to see more Narrogin people get involved in the sport. “At the start of the weekend (Joel and Maddison) were both feeling the nerves but by the end of Saturday they were having a ball,” Mr Cain said. “Joel’s driving improved all weekend and the boat handled the track really well, unfortunately mechanical issues saw an early end to their racing on Sunday. “And we’re anticipating a couple more newbies at the next race in October.” The LS class was championed by Geoff Steele who lapped 41.78sec on Saturday driving Subject to Finance while Kenny Russell behind the wheel of Knackers B saw a Sunday victory with 39:35 for his fastest time. Superboat superstar Chery Welch spearheaded her ride Natwel Racing to the front of the pack across both days, recording a time of 39:82, and was followed by runner up Tracy Ehrenreich in Momentum (46:89 fastest time). A single junior driver, Brandan Uren, successfully decreased his time each run, his fasted being 36:75, to prepare for October’s race which is expecting more junior competitors. Despite being unable to finish the Sunday race due to mechanical issues with Hey Presto, first-timers Meyer and Bain clocked a stellar 44:61 in the LS class. Spectators enjoyed the comp from newly installed viewing decks and safety crews worked from new stations protected by hay bales, which were the NJC members latest upgrades since reinstating the only regional WA jetsprint track last year. Mr Cain said the season was off to a thrilling start with the event preparations all holding up. “I think everyone that turned up had a wonderful time, all the spectators they all loved it once again,” he said. He thanked the Narrogin SES crew, cadets and Lions Club for helping out on the day.
