Leading law firm Maurice Blackburn Lawyers looking into historic abuse allegations at Perth primary school

A leading Australian law firm is investigating allegations of child sexual abuse at Beldon Primary School in Perth’s northern suburbs in the 1990s. Maurice Blackburn Lawyers are seeking information from former students, staff, or anyone connected to the school between 1990 and 1994. The firm says they are acting on behalf of a client who has made allegations of sexual abuse by a teacher towards them during a school camp. Since going public, the firm said it has received further allegations from former Beldon Primary students regarding abuse. The matter is currently being pursued as a civil case, with no criminal charges believed to have been filed or expected at this stage. According to Maurice Blackburn Lawyers, the claim is being made against the Minister for Education and the State of Western Australia, but the firm will not be initiating a class action. Speaking to PerthNow, police said they were unable to confirm whether any specific person or organisation was under investigation. However, police encouraged anyone who has been a victim of sexual abuse, or who has information about someone being abused, to contact them on 131 444 or report anonymously via the Safe2Say online platform. The Department of Education said it was not aware of the claim and could not comment.
