Young mum Brooke Collins dies four years after sister, grandparents left to care for eight children

The heartbroken family of a young mum who died after being hit by a car in Morley are struggling to come to terms with a second devastating tragedy in just four years. Brooke Collins was walking across the intersection of Kennedy Road and Walter Road West in Morley when she was hit by a Subaru Forester about 6.30pm on April 23. She was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital and underwent four surgeries but died from her injuries on May 3. Her two boys, aged 13 and 14, are now being cared for by grandparents who were also raising five other children after the loss of Brooke’s sister Kylie in 2022. Hayley Collins is now the only remaining sister. Hayley said Ms Collins was walking home from her son’s football training when the tragic accident happened. “My mum raced down to the scene but by then she was in an ambulance and was taken to ICU at Royal Perth Hospital,” she said. “Only the day before she passed, they reduced the sedation and she had a little bit of movement, so we had so much hope and then we got the devastating news. “My mum and dad had to make the big decision to stop life support.” Hayley said that her family were trying to grieve while dealing with the financial concerns of looking after Brooke and Kylie’s children. “Brooke loved big — she would love anyone that came in her path,” Hayley said. “My two sisters, they just absolutely loved anyone and everyone. “My dad is not a crier but ever since my sister passed in 2022 to now my sister Brooke passing away, he is shattered. “My mum is heartbroken because her and Brooke were inseparable. “Mother’s Day was a really hard day for everybody.” The sisters’ childhood friends Victoria Gray and Melissa Williams have set up a fundraiser to help with the costs of raising the children. “When I found out Brooke passed away, it absolutely broke me,” Ms Gray said. “We’ve known each other since we were in Year 2 at school and we’ve been inseparable ever since. “She was just the most lovely, caring person and she was an amazing mum to her boys.” Ms Williams added: “Seeing Kylie and Brookes’ kids upset is the worst part because I went through that pain of losing my mum and dad young. “We’re trying to do everything we can so their parents can raises these seven kids. “If we can help the grandparents take the financial burden off, they’ll be able to grieve and not have to worry what they’re going to do.” The GoFundMe can be found here.
