Two Northam Senior High School students arrested after discharging chemical devices on school grounds

Two teenage boys have been arrested after discharging “chemical devices” inside their high school on Thursday. At about 9.15am, police received reports that two chemical devices had been discharged at Northam Senior High School. St John WA paramedics and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services also attended the scene. Police said one student was taken to hospital for “precautionary medical care.” Two teenage boys have been arrested. They are currently assisting police with their inquiries. No damage was caused to the school grounds as a result of the incident. A community Facebook group post said children were not allowed to leave their classrooms as the incident unfolded. A text message was sent out by the school to all parents confirming the school day returned to normal by 11.30am. “There was an incident at the school today that required a partial evacuation of the quad area for precautionary reasons,” it read. “The school day returned to normal at 11.30am.
