A saltwater crocodile spotted in Dampier Creek last night has prompted authorities to close Town Beach to the public for the next 24 hours.

At 7pm last night, February 7, a 2.5m saltwater crocodile was spotted in the Broome crocodile control zone at Dampier Creek.

In response Shire of Broome Rangers have closed Streeter’s Jetty, Catalina’s and Town Beach for at least the next 24 hours while Parks and Wildlife Service Rangers patrol the area.

People are urged to be cautious and stay well away from the water’s edge.

Any crocodile sightings should be reported to DBCA Parks and Wildlife Service Broome.
