Lord Mayor’s Distress Relief Fund to distribute first round of payments to Kimberley flood victims

The first round of payments from the Lord Mayor’s Distress Relief Fund has been made available to non-government-owned properties affected by catastrophic flooding in the region. The LMDRF will allocate funding to properties that suffered major damage from the floods. They will be eligible for payments of up to $50,000, while those that sustained minor damage will be eligible for up to $25,000. The damage assessment process will inform how the funds are dispersed. More rounds of funding distribution will be announced as the impacted communities’ requirements continue to be assessed. LMDRF presiding chair and City of Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas thanked everyone who donated to the appeal. “The Kimberley floods were a once-in-a-generation event and the worst the State has seen,” he said. “More than $12 million has now been raised to help victims of this emergency. This is an incredible community response that will make a real difference to those who have lost their homes.”
