Looma demolish Saints as Bulls come close to knocking Cable Beach off perch

The Looma Eagles delivered a thrashing to the Broome Saints at the weekend as the two teams clashed at Haynes Oval on Saturday afternoon.
Looma took the lead early in the first quarter and then went on to score a solid four goals a quarter to secure the win, 16.10 (106).
Richard Cox and Ty Murray did most of the legwork for Looma in front of the goals, kicking five each over the course of the match. Kye Pindan, Darren Kirkman, Denzel Minga and Dhantory Pinda proved instrumental for the out-of-town side’s win.
At Bidyadanga Oval, the top team Broome Towns claimed another win, taking down the Emus on their home turf.
The Bidyadanga side put up a solid fight, managing to kick four goals against the dominant side over the course of the match with Kamahl Bangu scoring two.
But the Towns easily outscored the Emus with Sean Gregory kicking four and Brayden Tolentino kicking three of the side’s 10 goals, helping secure the win, 10.14 (74) to 4.4 (28).
During the week, under the Thursday night lights at Nipper Roe Oval, the Broome Bulls nearly caused a massive upset coming within a goal of the win against last year’s premiers, Cable Beach.
Cable Beach took the lead during the first term before the Bulls outscored them in the second, kicking four goals to Cable Beach’s one, to take the lead with a 14-point buffer going into half-time, 5.6 (36) to 3.4 (22).
But Cable Beach struck back in a reversal of the second quarter, kicking three goals while the Bulls kicked just one, with just a handful of behinds keeping the Bulls in front, 6.8 (44) to 6.4 (40).
In a massive last quarter, Cable Beach went on to kick another three goals while the Bulls, missing several opportunities at the goal square, sealed their fate, 9.6 (60) to 7.12 (54).
In the women’s league down at Haynes Oval on Saturday afternoon, Cable Beach destroyed the Broome Bulls in a flawless 139-point victory with Cable Beach’s Simone Narkle kicking a huge nine goals, 21.13 (139) to 0.0 (0).
Then the Looma Eagles claimed the win in another one sided blow out with the Broome Saints suffering a 39-point loss, 6.9 (45) to 1.0 (6).
