Aboriginal officers in Fitzroy Crossing honoured with police service medals

Four former Aboriginal police liaison officers and police officers from Fitzroy Crossing have been formally recognised for their service, receiving Aboriginal Police Service Medals at a ceremony this week.
The presentation was held on February 24 at the Fitzroy Crossing police station, with district leadership, community representatives and family members in attendance.
The recipients were acknowledged for their contributions to community safety, cultural engagement and policing across the district.
The Aboriginal Police Service Medal recognises the commitment, cultural knowledge and leadership demonstrated by Aboriginal personnel who have served with distinction in the WA Police Force.
Their work has played a key role in strengthening relationships between police and Aboriginal communities throughout regional Western Australia.
Medal recipients include Samuel Keith Andrews, who served as a police aide/APLO from December 20, 1999 to July 21, 2001 and again from December 18, 2002 to August 1, 2004.
Peter Murray was a police aide from August 5, 1996 to December 19, 1999.

Vivienne Gordon served as an APLO and First Class Constable from March 17, 2003 to June 10, 2011 and Thomas Worrigal was an APLO and First Class Constable from February 28, 2002 to April 22, 2011.
Officer-in-charge at Fitzroy Crossing Sen. Sgt Mark Howes said the medals recognised the ongoing legacy of Aboriginal officers in regional policing.
“These medals acknowledge the dedication and leadership each recipient has shown throughout their careers,” he said.
“Their service has strengthened local relationships and contributed to safer outcomes for families across Fitzroy Crossing.”
