Winning treble to jockey Lucy Fiore at Albany’s final meeting, local Casey Hunter tastes success as trainer

Jockey Lucy Fiore finished the Great Southern season with a winning treble while Albany’s Casey Hunter trained her first ever winner on Friday. Fiore recently won the Albany Community Cup with Filthy Habits and continued her strong form in the saddle by claiming three of the seven races at the season ending Percy Spencer Racecourse meeting. The experienced Fiore booted home Linden’s Gold, Money Trees and Puro to cap off a terrific Great Southern season. The Takahide Ikenushi-trained Linden’s Gold ($4.60) got over the top of Gift Of The Heart ($3.40), who led the field to the home turn, with Fiore pouncing in the final stages to win by a long head in race four over 1230m. In the MacTiernan Winter Handicap (1100m), Fiore was aboard Money Trees from the yard of her husband Brandon Fiore. Well supported into a $2.50 favourite when resuming from a spell, Money Trees sat in the front half of the field after jumping from barrier two and sprinted clear in the home straight to beat Frantic War ($26) by half a length. Fiore rounded out her big day with victory in the See You Next Season November 2nd 2025 Handicap (1230m) on Puro. The Brett Pope-trained Puro ($3.40) came from near last on the final turn and destroyed by her rivals by nearly three lengths after shooting up near the inside rail. Earlier Hunter scored a memorable win as a trainer-jockey, taking out the Western Racepix – Horse Of The Year Maiden (1230m) with Four Seas. After recently getting her trainers licence, Hunter scored victory on the third time she saddled up Four Seas. Four Seas ($3.60) sat second in running and then was too strong for Lady Coco ($3.30) to win by more than a length on the line. Albany trainer Ashleigh Woollett and local hoop Tash Faithfull teamed up to win race five over 1600m with Magic Mikey. Magic Mikey ($3.10) ran fifth in the Jericho Cup qualifier over 3100m and then came back to 1900m but he was too strong when returning to 1600m, winning by two lengths over Cousin Ivan ($3.50). Promising type Panthera Tiger broke his maiden status in impressive fashion, for trainer Rebecca Bayliss and jockey Kyra Yuill. Panthera Tiger ($14) was having just his second career start and led all the way to score a half-length win in the King’s Troop Maiden (1600m). Snipperando ($5) was ridden perfectly by Victoria Corver to claim the Nukalli Holstein Stud Handicap (1900m) for trainer Ryan Hill. The three-year-old filly won by three lengths over Pray For Lucy. Jockey Alex Hearn copped a 13-day careless riding suspension in race one, for shifting outwards on his runner Bulls Eye Perfect when insufficiently clear of Only By The Night which then caused interference to Elegant Peak. In partnership with Alan McNamara, the Albany Racing Club was able to offer a free service to stallion King’s Troop for all winners at the meeting.
