Hiker rescued from Bluff Knoll at night after injury left her stranded on popular Great Southern trail

A hiker was rescued from Bluff Knoll on Tuesday night after an injured ankle left her stuck on the trail after dark. Department of Fire and Emergency Services received a call for a hiker needing help at about 7.20pm on Tuesday night, with a volunteer crew from the Gnowangerup State Emergency Services responding. The crew reached the popular hiking spot to find the woman in her 30s with an injured ankle on the trail about a 1km from the car park. She was unable to climb back down, and SES crew members stretchered the woman back to the car park. St John WA was called to the scene but was stood down, with the woman’s friend believed to have driven her to hospital for treatment. This rescue is the latest in a string of incidents in the Stirling Range National Park this year, with emergency services called to assist several times for injured hikers.
