Millions around the world have battled through struggles accessing popular websites and platforms as major brands went down during va huge tech outage.

On Tuesday morning, Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Threads started experiencing major issues.

On Instagram, images and videos failed to load, despite access to the app and website still being possible.

Tens of thousands of users registered their issues on the popular outage website Downdetector, with reports flooding in around the world.

The issue appeared to be localised around Meta, who own Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp.

On Meta’s status update website, it listed an issue with Facebook Ads Manager, saying: “We are aware of an issue that may be impacting ad delivery. Our engineering teams are aware and are actively looking to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”

On Google Trends, searches for terms “Instagram down” and “test” spiked as users attempted to work out why they could not access content online.

Ninety minutes after the first update, Meta claimed the issue was fixed.

“We have recovered from an earlier outage impacting Ads Delivery, and services have now been restored. We apologise for any inconvenience that this may have caused,” a post of the status page said.
