Waalitj Marawar (West Coast) have added fuel to the fire over their claiming of the state colours, taking a cheeky dig at their crosstown rivals Walyalup (Fremantle) on social media.

The Eagles revealed their WA Day round jumper, in which they will don the state’s black and gold colour scheme for the first time since 2007 for their round 12 clash against Geelong.

It sparked furore amongst some Dockers fans who quickly reminded the Eagles there is more than one team in WA, with even coach Justin Longmuir weighing in.

“I would think heritage round is there for wearing your club’s history rather than WA’s history, but I haven’t given it much thought,” he said.

However, the Eagles have not backed down from their claim of the state in a cheeky video as Jake Waterman helped new recruit Liam Baker reacclimatise to being back in the west.

“You’ve been east for a while, and it’s my job to reintroduce you to WA first things first geography,” Waterman said, “everything the light touches is our kingdom,” pointing to the map of the entire state.

“What about that shadowy place?” Baker asks.

“That is Fremantle, you must never go there,” he jokes. “Nah, you can unless it’s RAC derby week.”

Waterman was also quick to tell Baker the colours are not yellow and black from his Richmond day, but black and gold.

It comes as a poll by The West Australian revealed 83 per cent of WA footy fans had no issue with the Eagles wearing the state colours, compared to just 17 per cent believing they should be hands off.
