The Game: Fremantle Dockers supporter Jan Garwell takes home $50,000 as top tipper, thanks to TABtouch

After 25 home-and-away rounds, sometimes all it takes is a little bit of heart.

That’s what die-hard Fremantle supporter Jan Garwell banked on as she snared a massive $50,000 prize - thanks to TABtouch - as this year’s top tipper at The Game.

Garwell finished top of the official competition with 162 tips in a tie with second place, but won with a superior point differential margin. And it came as she, like her beloved Dockers, surged home in 2025.

In such a tight race, the final rounds can make for stressful viewing, but Garwell had no such nerves, having not even realised she was in the hunt.

“I had no idea I was even up the top,” Garwell told The West Australian.

“I was looking every week just to see how many I get right, but early on, when I looked overall, I was miles away, so I never bothered to check again.

“When I got the call, I had to make sure that they had the right person, so after that, I did go on the website and look.”

Her charge up the ladder was thanks in part to the fortunes of her team, as the Dockers surged into finals with a strong second half of the season.

“I never pick against the Dockers, so it helped that they won 16 games,” she said.

“Sometimes it was obvious, if it’s a top eight team against a bottom eight team I’d pick the top team, but if it was fourth v sixth I might’ve picked the home team. But I don’t have any particular strategy.”

Garwell said she had no big plans with the winnings other than sharing some with her family.

“I’ve given some to my two daughters and my five grandchildren and kept a little bit for myself, of course,” she said.
