Bryce Cotton: Adelaide signing set to open up on reasons for Perth Wildcats exit, deletes farewell post

Bryce Cotton has deleted his heartfelt social media farewell message for the Red Army from two months ago as the Perth Wildcats legend hinted he was on the brink of giving the full story of why he left the WA club. Cotton stunned the NBL this week by announcing he had inked a three-year deal with Adelaide, with an expected move to play in Asia failing to eventuate. The five-time NBL Most Valuable Player spoke in a video interview released by the 36ers on Friday, talking about how it was “time for a new door to open”, but has since teased a podcast chat with close friend and one-time Wildcats import signing Devondrick Walker about the reasons for his exit. “Why Bryce Cotton left Perth? Coming soon,” an Instagram post for The Easy Day Show post reads, with Cotton sharing it to the Stories section of his account. It comes as Cotton removed his Instagram goodbye message from March 25, in which he wrote to his 38,000 followers that Perth would always feel like home after a remarkable nine-season stretch in red. “To the Red Army... y’all have welcomed me with open arms from the time I first stepped onto Aussie soil ‘til I scored my last basket of the season a few weeks back,” Cotton wrote upon announcing his departure in the early hours of the morning, WA time. “I came at the back end of the season my first year only expecting to be here six weeks, and it turned into accomplishing things that no other player has achieved in their first nine seasons in the history of the league. All glory to God. “Despite that, I had my slumps along the way on the court but you guys never turned your back on me and always showed genuine support. I can never thank you enough for that. “I can only hope you had half as much joy watching me play as I had playing in front of y’all year after year. Win lose or draw, I gave you, my teammates, and coaches everything I had... and thank you once again for accepting, the good games, the bad and everything in between. “Perth will always be home, but it’s time to say goodbye and see what else God has planned for me and my family.” The Wildcats are yet to provide comment on Cotton’s signing with the 36ers.
