As they prepare to celebrate their 30th birthday, Perth Glory have delivered the ultimate present to their fans in the form of a new, retro-inspired kit.

And the throwback shirts come with an added pinch of nostalgia as major sponsor Chicken Treat returns to the front of the jersey for the first time since 1998.

Glory’s A-Leagues sides will this season wear kits not dissimilar from their home and away jerseys from the 2000-01 season.

Incorporating bespoke swans and an orange collar and trim, the return of Chicken Treat as a shirt sponsor is a not-so-subtle nod to the days where watching Glory meant cheering on the club from the hill in front of The Shed with a box of chicken in one hand and chips in the other.

Perth legend Bobby Despotovski said the new jerseys brought back memories of his playing days and it would mean even more this season getting to watch his son and current player Sebastian wear the shirt.

“It brings some memories back, especially with Chicken Treat,” he said.

“It’s fun, first of all, and also good to see the new generation of kids coming through.

“Seb’s my boy, and that makes me immensely proud of that but seeing all the girls and and the boys photo shoot for the retro 30th year, it’s very nice.”

While the younger Despotovski said it was unlikely coach Adam Griffiths would endorse his players tucking into some Chicken Treat post-game, he knew fans would love the sponsor and the shirt reminded him of many of the old jerseys in the family house.

“We’ve got a few at home actually, they’re framed up on the wall — but I’m going to have to take some down and start framing my ones now,” he said.

Glory winger Stefan Colakovski declared the jerseys his favourite across his previous three seasons with the club.

“I love them. I love all the details. There’s a lot of orange and white. I love the swans, Chicken Treat is going to be great for all the fans,” he said.

Even the material is like a little bit metallic. It’s a little bit retro. Since I’ve been at the club, this has been the best kit by far.

“I wouldn’t mind a vintage round where we rock up in a little retro jacket.”

It is not the first time Glory have pulled out a retro kit to celebrate a major milestone, with Perth memorably donning a throwback to their inaugural jersey for their 20th anniversary in 2016-17.
