Western Roar captain Cleo Kenny says her side is desperate to avenge last year’s grand final disappointment when they take on reigning premiers Comets in this year’s WANL decider on Sunday.

Comets caused an almighty upset to claim the 2025 premiership, stunning the Roar in an impressive first quarter to lead by 10 goals on their way to a 54-43 victory.

Impressively, both sides beat the minor premiers in Demons — who had lost only once this year headed into the finals — to once again book a blockbuster showdown at the State Netball Centre this Sunday.

Kenny said their defeat to the Comets still weighed on their minds as they prepare to meet the in-form outfit who have won both their finals to come from third and make the decider.

“We 100 per cent want this win after last year, we were disappointed with the performance we put out,” she said.

“This year all we want to do is come back and prove ourselves and show everyone what we’re capable of doing.

“They (the Comets) have threats across the court, but the speed of the way they play the ball is what we’ve got to stop and then every ball we win we need to convert into a goal.”

Comets skipper Georgia Morgan said her team’s confidence was high on the back of a six-game winning streak which has given them a chance to defend their premiership.

“With a Roar-Comets grand final you never know what to expect,” she said.

“It will just be who can put out their best on the day. We’re feeling good at the moment and are excited.

“It’s been a rollercoaster this season. We’ve been in all kinds of positions on the ladder so far this season, all kinds of ins and outs, some injuries and I think we’ve had some times where our injury bench behind us has been almost as full as our playing bench but the girls have been amazing and we’ve had to work hard all season to get to where we are at the moment.”
