Super Netball 2025: West Coast Fever coach Dan Ryan says NSW Swifts aren’t ‘invincible’ as they look to upset

West Coast Fever coach Dan Ryan says the undefeated NSW Swifts aren’t “invincible”, citing gaps in their game they can exploit to win the biggest game of the season to date. Fever have won their past six matches to lay a strong challenge to the ladder-leading Swifts, who smashed them by 18 goals in the season opener at RAC Arena. The return of shooter Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard in round three has changed Fever’s fortunes and they head to Ken Rosewall Arena on Saturday night a vastly different outfit. Ryan said any team in Super Netball could be beaten on any given day and the Swifts weren’t excluded. “I don’t think anyone is invincible and while the Swifts have demonstrated enormous strengths in their game, they’ve also had been some gaps that have emerged as well,” Ryan said. “The (Adelaide) Thunderbirds did a great job at exposing some of those areas and they got very close to toppling them, but the Swifts stepped up in some key moments. “Any team on their day can be knocked off and we’re certainly going to do everything we can to challenge the Swifts and see if we can be that team that does it for the first time this year.” Ryan said the biggest difference between their round one clash and now was Fever were playing as a team. “The importance of every position playing their role for the full 60 minutes and not being dependent on a couple of people to lead the way for us,” he said. “That individual accountability piece has been a real strength of our team in this run of wins that we’ve had and in Jhaniele’s return. “We’re looking after each other out on the court much better than what we have been and that’s important for us to make sure we’re playing for each other.” A win over the Swifts would keep the gap for Fever inside the top two as well as they look to rebound from consecutive heartbreaking preliminary final defeats. Ryan said even if they walked away with the four premiership points, the Swifts would remain flag favourites. “The Swifts have still been leaps and bounds ahead of everyone in the competition and if they are to lose a game, they’ll probably welcome that as well,” he said. “It’s always tough when you’re going through undefeated, and everyone is out to get you but they’re weathering that storm well. “The way the competition is going, there’s a still handful of teams that can put themselves in premiership contention if not the top four.”
