VideoFremantle coach Justin Longmuir couldn't hide his emotion when Jye Amiss kicked the match-sealing goal in the club's win over Gold Coast.

Injured Docker Hayden Young says the club’s bye has come at a good time for some sore bodies as Fremantle look to buck a concerning recent trend following a week off.

Justin Longmuir’s side has reeled off three consecutive wins to emerge as one of the form sides of the competition ahead of sitting out this weekend’s action for their mid-season break.

While many Freo fans would want to see their side get the chance to keep their momentum rolling, Young said last weekend’s taxing win over Gold Coast in testing conditions meant some players were feeling the pinch and relishing the chance for a rest.

Fremantle have 11 players who have featured in every game so far this year, including midfield stars Caleb Serong and Andrew Brayshaw, important defenders Luke Ryan, Brennan Cox and Jordan Clark, and forward lynch-pins Josh Treacy and Jye Amiss.

“I don’t know if there’s ever the right time for a bye,” Young said on 96FM.

“But I think if you ask a few of the boys, particularly after that game when they’ve pulled up a bit sore... I think they’d say it’s come at the right time.

“It’s certainly good for the few sore bodies throughout the group.”

Young is among several Dockers in Melbourne to catch up with family and friends for a portion of this week before turning their attention to resuming training, with a unique month awaiting.

Freo don’t have single fixture outside of Perth for the entirety of June, with Optus Stadium clashes against North Melbourne, Essendon and St Kilda across the coming weeks.

While the Dockers will start as firm favourites for their meeting with the 17th-placed Roos, they’ll have to overcome a poor recent history of performances coming immediately out of their mid-season bye.

Fremantle suffered their largest defeat of last season with a 67-point trouncing at the hands of the Western Bulldogs after last year’s bye. It followed a home loss to Richmond and a road defeat against Carlton in their first post-bye games in 2023 and 2022 respectively.

Young said he was confident his teammates could carry over their form when they resume next Saturday.

“We’ve got a bit of momentum. The challenge is now: Can we keep it going?” said Young, who remains at least six weeks away from a return following hamstring surgery.

“That’s the exciting thing that we’ve got ahead of us.

“As a group, it’s something we might not have done well in the past, but we’re really looking forward to the opportunity.

“I feel like we’ve certainly found a bit of a formula and we know what’s working well for us. We’ve just got to keep the ball rolling.”
