Freo fans are daring to dream of a big MCG game next month, but it’s a past history-making game at the home of footy that serves as the inspiration for this year’s retro jumper.

The Dockers on Monday unveiled the design for their throwback strip, with a nod to the club’s first-ever match - against Richmond at the MCG in 1995 - in the purple-and-green fit.

Fremantle will wear the jumper in their final home-and-away match of the season in WA next weekend, when they face Adelaide on a Friday night in round 23.

Justin Longmuir’s side most recently wore a similar purple-and-green throwback anchor design in a win over Richmond in late 2021, but it came in front of just 24,979 fans with COVID restrictions in place at Optus Stadium.

This time around, it will feature in front of more than 50,000 supporters keen to get their last look at the impending minor premiers in their home State ahead of September’s finals series.

With two home finals secured, the Dockers need a total attendance of 64,146 - at an average of 21,382 - across their final three Optus Stadium games of the year to set a new club record for the most number of fans watching them in WA in a single season.

The existing mark of 645,545 was set last year.
