Fremantle Dockers notes: Josh Tracy, Jye Amiss and Pat Voss stand out as Brandon Walker pushes his case

Key forwards Josh Treacy, Pat Voss and Jye Amiss will be a major threat for the Dockers again this season. The way they worked together to kick eight of Fremantle’s 11 goals was impressive. Amiss booted four goals, Voss slammed home three and Treacy kicked one, but they had opportunities to have an even bigger scoreboard impact because they had several shots which were impacted by the strong breeze. Treacy’s workrate and marking stood out and the way he gives his midfield a target is going to give defenders plenty of headaches. Amiss played much deeper than last season and continued on the form he displayed last week in the intraclub Attack from half-back There’s no doubt the Dockers want to attack from half-back. They took the ball the length of the ground multiple times and were happy to risk kicking the ball into the centre corridor when bringing the ball out of defence. Their first goal of the game started with Alex Pearce beginning the passage of play across half-back which showed their intent. Murphy Reid and Heath Chapman both opened up the game in the second term with aggressive kicks into the centre square from the defensive 50. The desire to take off instead of waiting for a safe option was clear all day. Fremantle’s kicking and use of handball to open up the game was impressive. Freo’s Ruckmen With Sean Darcy sidelined due to a calf injury, and Luke Jackson playing as a pure midfielder for Western Australia during AFL Origin last weekend, all eyes were on the centre square to see how the Dockers would line up. But they didn’t try anything tricky. Jackson started in the ruck and stayed there. He was the ruckman in the middle 16 times while Mason Cox did the job on just seven occasions. Jackson didn’t spend any time as a midfielder when Cox was the ruckman. Reid watch Murphy Reid dominated the intraclub game as a midfielder but he returned to his usual position at half-forward against the Eagles. Reid was in the centre square just once in the first half. He returned to the middle again once in the third quarter Matt Johnson, Neil Erasmus and Shai Bolton were given clear priority over Reid in the middle of the ground as part of the Caleb Serog, Hayden Young and Andrew Brayshaw rotation. That didn’t mean Reid didn’t push high up the field. His creativity with the ball was again impressive, he set up goals for others and also kicked one himself. It doesn’t matter where Reid plays, he makes things happen. Walker impresses When it comes to playing with speed, Brandon Walker is one man who you know can give the Dockers express pace. He dislocated his shoulder in round two last season and didn’t play another AFL game, so he will be desperate to get back in the team. Having played on the wing last week, Walker showed how damaging he can be when winning the ball around the middle of the ground because his speed and aggression was electrifying. He set up a goal for Pat Voss during the second term through pure speed.
