Fremantle’s Roxy Roux is a special player, but even she could hardly believe it when turned a banana into a coffee.

The teenage sensation kicked one of the goals of the season to open the Dockers’ account in their 49-point win over Gold Coast at Fremantle Oval on Saturday.

Deep in the right pocket, Roux curled the ball from the boundary straight through the middle to kick-start Fremantle’s charge, which would see them kick the next seven goals on their way to a 7.13 (55) to 1.0 (6) victory.

Roux credits forwards coach Amy Lavell with helping her have the ability to kick the goal, but revealed the woman known as “Cotters” now owes her a coffee.

“I actually practice that shot a lot. We call it our ‘coffee shot’,” Roux said.

“Cotters’ always puts the challenge there and I practice it after every training and I finally got my chance.

“Now ‘Cotters’ really owes me a coffee.

“I didn’t really pay attention to the crowd. I think I went into my own little bubble and I was like ‘do I go for it, do I not, do I put it to the top of the square’ and I went you know what I’ve been practising this for so long and I’ve come a long way from not even being able to get it near the goals, so I just went for it.”

Dockers coach Trent Cooper joked Lavell may be up for a whole coffee machine after Roux slotted the snap.

“When she had it we actually said this is the coffee shot so we gave her a chance and it went through,” he said.

“She’s a pretty special talent Roxy, I was rapt with her endeavour today, the way she rucked when she was in the ruck and her forward pressure, it was really amazing.

“It’s not necessarily about goals for her. We scored a goal to that end and it was her pressure from the kick in that resulted in it, so we love all that stuff. It was unlucky that ball was touched as well so she could’ve ended up with a couple, but I think it was definitely her best game of the year.”
