WA have received some fixture clarity regarding the remainder of their domestic season, which is due to resume next month.

The West Australian can reveal WA’s first game after the Big Bash League break will be a Marsh One-Day Cup clash against Victoria at the Junction Oval in St Kilda on March 8, nearly a month later than the rest of the competition.

It means captain Mitch Marsh, who is set to make Australia’s Pakistan tour squad starting early March, won’t feature at all for his State this summer.

Josh Inglis is also unlikely to play in the back half of the season as firms for the travelling party as a back-up gloveman to Alex Carey, with spin-bowling allrounder Ashton Agar potentially in the same boat.

Their delayed resumption is due to Premier Mark McGowan’s recent border reopening backflip on the original February 5 date, meaning returning WA-based BBL players will have to quarantine for 14 days on arrival.

Only selected Perth Scorchers and fellow WA-based players at other BBL franchises have been approved to get back into the State before February 5, with several remaining in and around Melbourne and others holidaying elsewhere.

Some WA players, including Australian Test allrounder Cam Green, Melbourne Stars batter Hilton Cartwright and Hobart Hurricanes seamer Joel Paris, got back early because of university studies, while title-winning Scorchers coach Adam Voges also received G2G approval because of his school-aged children.

Scorchers trio Jhye Richardson, Agar, Inglis and Stars allrounder Marcus Stoinis will remain over east for Australia’s five-game T20 series against Sri Lanka, which begins on February 11.

WA only need to get through three more domestic matches for their season to be counted, two in the Sheffield Shield and one more in the Marsh One-Day Cup.

They sit atop the ladder in both competitions.

Voges said earlier this week that it was a “real possibility” his team would have to play the rest of their domestic season interstate like other WA sporting franchises are dealing with right now.

“Western Australia are in a good spot in both competitions so we’d certainly love to be able to finish our season off but exactly what that looks like at the moment, I’m not sure,” Voges told SportFM 91.3.

“My understanding is that we need to get seven games in for a Shield season and I think it’s six for a Marsh Cup which leaves us with two more Shield games and a one-day plus potentially finals if we can play well enough.

“I think it’s a real possibility that we’ll be asked to go back out again and hopefully we’ve got some better border news by that stage, but we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.”

WA have played five matches in the Sheffield Shield, the same amount as Queensland, Tasmania and South Australia.

New South Wales and Victoria have played three apiece because of their COVID restrictions at the start of the season.

WA have played the most games in the Marsh One-Day Cup with five for a 3-2 record as they hunt a third title in five years.

They haven’t taken on either the Blues or Vics in either format.
