West Coast’s bright AFLW future has been reflected in the league’s 22Under22 side, with the Eagles earning more selections than any other club.

Four West Coast players made the line-up, led by Ella Roberts, who was picked as captain in the fan-selected side.

Georgie Cleaver, Lucia Painter and Eagles co-captain Charlie Thomas were the other blue-and-gold representatives in the team.

That quartet played an integral role in helping West Coast secure their maiden AFLW finals berth, with their season ending last weekend with an elimination final defeat at the hands of Carlton.

“It’s a real honour to be voted in as captain,” Roberts said.

“Having the fans involved makes it even more special, and to think they see me as a leader and a good footballer is something I’m really proud of.”

Thomas said it was “special” to be included in the side for a second straight year.

“It really shows how strong the competition is becoming, with so many talented young stars coming through. To be recognised among them is humbling and an absolute honour,” she said.

Georgie Brisbane was the sole Fremantle player to make the 22Under22 side, with the versatile Docker recognised for an encouraging debut campaign.

“We’re so proud of Georgie and the season she’s had in her first year, she continues to go from strength to strength and is deserving of her spot in the 22under22 side,” Dockers coach Lisa Webb said.

“She has a really high work rate, and I think she’s improved in every game this season.”
