Collingwood champion Scott Pendlebury has remained coy on the prospect of breaking the AFL’s all-time games-played record against West Coast later this month.

The Magpies superstar has made 431 appearances in black and white over the course of his 20-year career at the top level and sits only one one game adrift of North Melbourne legend Brent Harvey for the milestone.

After winding back the clock to win the Anzac medal last week, the 38-year-old was granted a rest for his side’s draw with Hawthorn on Thursday night, meaning he could match the record when they take on Geelong at the MCG next Saturday.

Collingwood are reportedly planning to give him another week off for their trip to Sydney to play the Swans in round 10, which would grant him the chance to break the record at home when his side take on West Coast at the MCG in round 11.

Speaking as an expert for Channel Seven’s coverage of Fremantle’s clash with Western Bulldogs on Friday night, Pendlebury said he was not sure what his immediate future would hold.

“Earlier in the year, I missed a game with an Achilles (injury). We would’ve liked it to be this coming week vs Geelong,” he said.

“I understand everyone wants to talk about it, but for me, I’ve got a game next week, (number) 432, it’s one I want to win this week against Geelong. I’ll get through that and then we’ll assess after that.

Earlier this week, the AFL website revealed the Magpies had been granted permission for Pendlebury to wear a gold number if and when he breaks the record.

But Pendlebury said the call on wearing a special guernsey may not entirely come down to him alone.

“I might run it past my kids first, and then we’ll see what they want to do,” he said.
