Ken Manolas, former City of South Perth councillor, dies and is remembered as approachable and committed

Former City of South Perth councillor Ken Manolas has died. Mr Manolas was elected to represent the Mill Point ward in 2015 and was on the council for eight years before announcing his retirement in 2023. According to a news post on South Perth’s website, Mr Manolas was a long-standing member for the South Perth community and dedicated many decades supporting his neighbours and local initiatives. Mayor Greg Milner said Mr Manolas was a valued member of council and the community. “His dedication, approachability and genuine care for others made a lasting difference, and he will be fondly remembered. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time,” he said. In 2019, Mr Manolas ensured parking remained free at the Mill Point ramp, two boat shed car parks and several other car parks over the weekends, stating at the time that parents shouldn’t be charged for their children to come and play at the foreshore. He was appointed to the City’s Reconciliation and Action Plan Working group in 2021, which overlooked and guided the city’s reconciliation initiatives. The city said Mr Manolas was known for his approachability, commitment and willingness to assist members of the community. He died on August 9.
