Two local Kimberley Training Institute students have been recognised for their initiative in pursuing careers in tourism and hospitality.
The Broome branch of international tourism body Skal made the decision to sponsor an award in collaboration with the institution to highlight the achievements of outstanding students.
Tourism graduate Bart Pigram won the Student of the Year Award 2014 and hospitality student Rocky McKenzie was named runner-up.
Skal donated iPads and handed out framed certificates to the studious pair, and Mr Pigram was also awarded $500.
Skal committee member Don Bacon said the organisation was pleased to recognise the duo's achievements.
"The committee members of Skal wanted to support the tourism and hospitality industries locally and decided to sponsor an award in collaboration with KTI," he said.
"This is the first year but something we want to continue.
"Bart and Rocky have shown dedication and hard work, while displaying an excellent attitude."
KTI portfolio manager Lee Anderson said the award was a way of acknowledging the hard work put in by the pair in their chosen fields.
Mr Pigram, who works as a cultural development project officer for Nyamba Buru Yawuru, said the skills he picked up at KTI were helping broaden the organisation's tourism enterprise.
Mr McKenzie, who played a lead role in Bran Nue Dae in 2009, said he had a year and a half left in his studies to become a qualified chef.
He has been working as a chef at the Mangrove Resort Hotel and said he was looking forward to being challenged in the kitchen in a busy dry season.
