Phillip Narkle: Rivervale stab victim identified as 18-year-old
The teenage victim of a fatal stabbing in Rivervale on Saturday evening has been identified and remembered by loved ones as a man who loved his family and culture.
Phillip Narkle, 18, was killed after a violent incident at a unit on Gladstone Road, in Rivervale, after 5pm on Saturday.
WA police said the 18-year-old was found by officers at the address with serious injuries consistent with a stab wound.
Paramedics arrived at the home eight minutes after being alerted to the incident and rushed the victim to Royal Perth Hospital, where he later died.
Mr Narkle’s family remembered the eighteen-year-old as an adventurous person who loved his culture and family, saying he was a younger brother “who thought he was the oldest”.
In a statement, police said a 19-year-old man known to the victim was assisting homicide detectives with their investigation.
It is understood bystanders attempted to give first aid to the man before paramedics arrived at the scene.
A local resident, who lives across from where the incident occurred, told The West officers were often called to the area.
He added the incident was scary but he felt “empathetic about the victim”.
“I saw people, cops, 15 to 20 vehicles, sirens and then some ambulance, the critical emergency ambulance, and then I heard some people yelling, screaming,” he said.
Angelo, a neighbour, heard the incident response unfold.
“We just heard a bit of commotion up and down the street, a bit of running. And then we obviously heard all of the police and few of the neighbours heading over to see what’s going on,” he said.
It is believed the incident happened at a rear unit at the Rivervale address, where forensic officers were seen looking at items in a rear carport, as police officers door-knocked neighbours.
Homicide detectives are probing the incident and urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via this link.
