New chapter for Magabala Books
Magabala Books has welcomed Anna Moulton as its new chief executive.
Ms Moulton took up the role on April 10 following a nationwide recruitment process.
She has lived in Broome and the Kimberley on and off for several years and has extensive experience working with indigenous organisations in the area.
The new recruit said she was "honoured and excited" to be at the helm of the indigenous publishing house.
"For many years, I have admired Magabala and its renowned publications," she said.
"It is a real privilege to take on this role at such a well-loved and respected organisation here in Broome, across the Kimberley and nationally.
"I am really looking forward to working with the dedicated and passionate staff, board and all the loyal Magabala readers to continue Magabala's tradition of 'spreading the seeds of culture'."
Ms Moulton previously worked as a lawyer and her experience includes establishing the Warmun Art Centre and the Miriuwung Gajerrong Ord Enhancement Scheme in Kununurra.
She recently worked with local women's organisation Nagula Jarndu to develop a new strategic and business plan.
Long-serving Magabala board member Julie Cobb said the board was pleased to have someone with Ms Moulton's skills and experience take up the leadership role.
"We believe her diverse experience, business development skills and creative energy make her well placed to support the growth of Magabala."
Ms Moulton said her new role enabled her to combine her passion for storytelling with a commitment to working with Aboriginal people and supporting culturally strong communities.
The chief executive has joined the organisation at an exciting time, as Magabala recently announced the launch of this year's Creators Scholarships, and the sell-out success of its latest releases, Dark Emu by Bruce Pascoe and Jared Thomas' Calypso Summer.
