Ladder bottleneck delights chief executive
It was a general bye for all West Kimberley Football League teams at the weekend and there’s no doubt players will be keen to play this weekend.
The contest is merciless with Bidyadanga Emus leading the competition on four wins, a draw and one loss, while Broome Bulls, Saints, Cable Beach and Looma Eagles are all deadlocked on four wins and two losses.
Then come Peninsula Bombers on two wins, three losses and a draw, Towns with one win and Derby Tigers on six losses.
West Kimberley Football League chief executive Sam Alexeeff said all teams were looking very competitive with strong rivalries evident.
“It’s going incredibly well, it’s a very close contest,” he said.
“At this point anywhere between positions one to six and seven are all feeling competitive — we are all excited by the fact that there aren’t two dominant teams, it’s a fairly even competition.
“We are excited that there are the women’s rounds, the first of two for the year building on their success at the lightning carnival — there’s lots of interest in town for women’s football and we are happy to support and promote it.”
Cable Beach’s Sonny Dann leads the legaue gold kicking with 21 goals. Looma’s Dermitt Wilson is second with 18, Bidyadanga’s Selwyn Hunter rests on 13 goals while Town’s Clinton Bell and Damien Crispin have 11 each.
This Saturday the Emusplay Saints in Bidyadanga at 1pm, there will be a Derby showdown between the Tigers and Towns at 1pm, Bombers will aim to blast the Bulls in Broome at 1pm and Cable Beach will look to clip the rising Eagles’ wings at 3pm in Broome.
