The critical Water Lily Place affordable housing project in Kununurra has taken another major step forward, with the arrival of its third tranche of modular homes.

The project remains on track for completion by the end of November.

Once finished, it will deliver 14 new modular homes specifically designed to support the attraction and retention of essential workers in the region.

Minister for the Kimberley Stephen Dawson, Kimberley MLA Divina D’Anna and Kimberley Development Commission chief executive Glen Chidlow recently toured the site to inspect the latest progress alongside representatives from the Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley.

Ms D’Anna said it was “fantastic” to tour the sight.

“Water Lily Place is now one step closer to completion. The third group of modular homes have arrived onsite, and we expect the final homes to be delivered before the end of July,” she said.

“Once complete, this project will deliver 14 new affordable homes for key workers in the East Kimberley, helping ensure the people who keep our community running have a place to call home.”

Unlike traditional government regional officer housing, Water Lily Place is uniquely targeted at critical local roles that often fall outside standard eligibility criteria, including childcare workers, key shire staff and other essential community personnel.

After their arrival, construction crews will start connecting the homes to services and completing surrounding infrastructure to prepare the site for its first residents.
