Kununurra’s EK Services Group named State’s regional business of the year at Perth awards night

Kimberley cleaning, security, property and hospitality company EK Services Group was named regional business of the year at the WA RISE Business Awards last week. The Kununurra-based business — which runs Northern Protective Services, EK Cleaning, EK Facility Services, Cornerside Cafe, the Sandalwood Shop Cafe and BGR Properties — took home the prize at an event in Perth on Thursday evening. It edged out four fellow finalists in the category, which aims to platform thriving regional organisations that make a positive contribution to their local communities. The recognition comes at the end of a busy year for EK Services, which expanded its cleaning business to Broome and completed its first tourist season operating two Kununurra cafes. EK Services corporate services director Bradley Kyne said the award represented a significant achievement for the company, which had grown to 62 employees over its six years in operation. “It’s really humbling to represent regional business on a State stage,” he said. Mr Kyne said the award would help energise the EK Services team ahead of a busy 2022, with plans for continued expansion into the West Kimberley. While growth was a major priority, Mr Kyne said the company’s Kununurra roots would always be central to the business. “Kununurra will always be our home and will always be our head office, no matter where we go; we’ve made a commitment to stay here, and we’ll be here forever,” he said.
