Peacock spider discovered by South West photographer named

A Bunbury photographer discovered her second species of peacock spider earlier this year and now it officially has a name — Maratus tiddalik.

Sunayana Rammohan is no stranger to the world of tiny creepy crawlies, and her passion for wildlife photography led her to make another groundbreaking discovery at Cape Naturaliste.

Last year, Mrs Rammohan discovered her first species, Australia’s colourful dancing peacock spider, in Leschenault, which was named Maratus suae, after her.

The spiders reach about 4mm-5mm when fully grown, making them difficult to find.

“What amazes me is it’s all going on right under our noses,” Mrs Rammohan previously told The Times.

“It’s all happening but we just can’t see them if we are not conditioned to.”
