Beachgoers have been told to be watchful for sharks with a whale carcass having washed up on Shelley Beach in Bunker Bay near Dunsborough on Monday.

The carcass was spotted tonight and authorities have warned that it could attract sharks closer to shore.

Fisheries officers said anyone in the area needs to exercise extra caution.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development is monitoring the situation and have asked the public to monitor the SharkSmart website, SharkSmart WA app or Surf Life Saving WA’s Twitter feed to keep informed with developments.
