Shark sighting shuts popular Balmoral Beach in Sydney after second suspected shark sighting in two days

A popular beach in Sydney’s Lower North Shore has shut with its second suspected shark sighting in two days inside a netted swimming enclosure. According to Mosman Council, the baths at Balmoral Beach have remained shut after “an animal” was seen in the netted zone of the beach on Wednesday morning. Mosman Council has confirmed the animal was still in the enclosure on Thursday morning, and baths has remained closed. “To support the animal leaving the enclosure naturally, the net has been lifted in parts. This approach is consistent with expert advice and allows the creature the opportunity to exit the Baths of its own accord,” the council said in a statement. The baths is said to be inspected on Friday morning to confirm whether the animal has vacated. “If the animal has left, the nets will be reinstated, and council will reopen the baths once the enclosure is secured,” the council said. “If the animal remains inside the enclosure, council will seek specialist assistance to safely encourage the animal to leave.”
