Perth weather: BOM issues severe thunderstorm warning with damaging winds, hail to pound city
Perth is set to be lashed by wild weather, with a line of storms from Lancelin to York predicted to sweep across the city this afternoon.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning with damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall to move in a south-westerly direction across the city from 6pm.
The bureau said this may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours for areas including Perth, Northam, Gingin, Lancelin, Pingelly and Yanchep.
“A Severe cell will arrive at Yanchep at 5.30pm, but further cells to the east may intensify and impact other areas over the next few hours,” BOM said in a tweet.
“Severe storms (are) currently impacting (the) Central Wheat Belt as well.
The warning comes after it took just 24 hours for Perth to smash its average rainfall total for March as thunderstorms battered the city yesterday.
Monday’s 26.2mm drenching blasted through the 19.7mm March average and, with showers and possible storms forecast through until Thursday.

Across WA, Mount Noddy near Northam was the wettest yesterday, copping a 49.6mm soaking.
The rain gauge at Bickley collected 30.6mm, the highest of any metropolitan station.
